There are a lot of good colleges to attend, but after you’ve visited the College of Charleston in the heart of one of the most historic cities in the country, you won’t want to go anywhere else.

Trust me.

But just in case, here are nine reasons why I’m telling you the truth.

1. CofC is located in the center of America’s greatest city.

Charleston is ranked the second-best city in the world by Travel and Leisure.

Students can take full advantage of all the historic landmarks the city has to offer.

You can find students studying at the Battery, playing soccer in Marion Square or reading on the swings at Waterfront Park.

“It’s located in such a cool city which creates an awesome learning atmosphere,” said Nikki Hill, a senior majoring in Public Health.

2. It’s only a 15-minute drive to the beach.

Folly, Sullivan’s and Isle of Palms are some of the most pristine beaches accessible to CofC students.

Why spend your Fridays in class when you can hang with friends at the beach?

Almost every student goes to the beach the day before finals start, a sure way to relieve stress before the most dreaded week of the year.

3. Students have personal relationships with their professors.

The student-faculty ratio is 15:1, and 35.7 percent of classes have fewer than 20 students.

This means students have more opportunities to participate in discussions and ask questions.

At CofC, you’ll feel like a real person in class rather than just a face in the crowd.

4. The food in Charleston is to die for.

With some of the best food in America, the dining options in Charleston are endless.

You can try a new restaurant every week.

Charleston even has a restaurant week, allowing students on a budget to gorge at the many five-star restaurants.

The food is so good, you’ll never crave a home-cooked meal again.

5. CofC has remarkable varsity and intramural sports programs.

Who needs football when you have an amazing basketball team?

Harry Potter fan?

Join the school’s quidditch team.

“The College has a unique sense of community and camaraderie among athletes,” said Rachel McNeely, a sophomore on the tennis team.

6. There are endless job opportunities for students.

King Street is full of shops and restaurants eager to hire college students.

Not only can you easily find a job, but internships are just as accessible.

Living in Charleston, you’re guaranteed to have an impressive resume by the time you graduate.

 7. CofC offers classes you can’t take anywhere else.

Can’t get enough of the beach?

Take a sailing or surfing class. You can even take both.

Horseback riding, yoga, ice skating and bobsledding are other fun classes offered. And for even the traditional classes, a sunny day often means a discussion outside.

8. Students don’t need a car.

Charleston is a city where you can get everywhere by foot.

You can save tons of money by not buying gas, which is necessary since you’ll need that extra cash for all the eating out you’re going to do.

9. Graduation is better than anywhere else.

Caps and gowns are so overrated.

CofC seniors get to walk across the Cistern in white dresses or suits.

They also get to wear a red rose. Talk about a beautiful ceremony!
