As a college student on a tight budget and schedule, cooking is not my top priority.
Going to school in a food hub makes it a very easy choice to eat out at a restaurant, especially when I am too lazy to go to the grocery store, cookand clean up after myself.
With being a full-time student, eating out can become super pricey, but we all deserve to treat ourselves to a nice meal!
Rolling on college budget, I have grouped together my favorite restaurants in Charleston that provide a money saving dining experience.
Spicing up your life – with sushi
Mondays are arguably the worst day of the week.
But lucky for you, O-ku offers a happy hour from 5-7 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Their happy hour consists of half off sushi rolls and select specialty drinks, and they are always changing their menu.
If you stop by this restaurant, make sure to try the Pak-man roll which consists of tempura salmon, asparagus, white fish, and sriracha ponzu.
Bottomless WHAT?????
Thats right! O-ku isn’t the only restaurant that offers happy hour specialty drinks.
What’s better than a Sunday Brunch? SOL Southwest offers an endless mimosa brunch for just $10!
On top of its endless mimmos deal on Sunday, SOL Southwest offers a Monday-Friday 4-7 p.m. happy hour special with $5 margaritas, sangrias and select wines.
Sticking to the No. 1 rule of never drinking on an empty stomach, Sol also offers $6-8 of select foods on their menu!
If you are going with a big party, make sure to call and make a reservation to not miss out on any deal.
Eat at HOM where no reservations are needed
After a long day of walking around the city of Charleston you might be feeling tired, hungry and slightly pressured to indulge in the nightlife of Upper King Street.
HOM is the perfect place to grab a quick bite on the fly, and maybe even beefy depending on how full you are (it seriously won’t disappoint).
If you are a burger guru, this place is for you! Classic Burger night occurs every Monday from 6-10 p.m. with the selection of a double burger, with a double patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and fancy sauce for $5.
Combining the fancy sauce with all the rich and juicy flavors from the burger, leaves your stomach feeling and your mouth watering for more!
Experiencing Charleston on another level
The perfect way to see the entire city of Charleston is from the rooftop at The Vendue.
You can see views as far as the Ravenel Bridge, Charleston Harbor, Waterfront Park and more with their outdoor dining. There’s no other perfect way to watch the sunset while enjoying their 4-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday happy hour.
The Vendue’s happy hour consists of half-off selected food items, $5beers and $7 house wines.
Some of my favorite food items include the loaded tots, vegetable spring rolls, and the grilled chicken nachos.
Saving the best for last (AKA dessert!!!!!)
The best way to end any day of the night is with a little Kaminsky’s.
Its happy hour consists of $1 off desert beers, $6 dessert martinis and $2 off wine by the glass.
This is a dessert bar downtown located on Market Street, where they offer the most delicious in house baked pastries.
Even though they allegedly have the best milkshake, my favorite is the toll house pie made into an a la mode – a warm cookie brownie pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with caramel and chocolate sauce.
Nothing hits the spot more than this dessert.
