4 reasons we still love the cupcake trend

Pop-up cupcake shops have taken hold of cities across America with their decadent icing designs, sugary flavors and cutesy pink tables and chairs that are the perfect place to enjoy a $3 cupcake.

You may be over the trend already, but here are four reasons why you should reconsider leaving behind the three-bite indulgence.

On Your Doorstep

New York City-based sweet shop Baked By Melissa has the right idea when it comes to cupcakes.

Comparable to a box of chocolate truffles with a sheet to map each flavor, Melissa’s delivery box lands on your front door fresh, sugary and in packs of 25 to 100 bite-sized cupcakes. Custom delivery is available, and the piece de résistance? You can even create your own flavor on its website.

My favorite flavor, you ask? Chocolate Pretzel.

As Seen on Shark Tank

Mother-daughter duo Tracey Noonan and Danielle Vilagie took their cake decorating classes and put them to good use – creating cupcakes in mini jars that can be shipped nationwide.

When traveling with their new product, a TSA agent at their local airport confiscated the jar, and the pair’s popularity grew. After appearing on ABC’s Shark Tank, Tracey and Danielle coined their cupcake jars as Wicked Good Cupcakes.

My favorite flavor? National (Security) Velvet.

Yummy in Your Tummy

Yummy Cupcakes out of Los Angeles will throw your taste buds for a spin with its unique flavors.

Their cupcake calendar rotates each month so customers are never bored with the selection. Yummy Cupcakes also has sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan options for its small cakes.

My favorite flavor? Guinness.

The Originals

That’s right, folks. The very first cupcake-only store is still open today, and it is the cream of the crop (batter, perhaps?)

Sprinkles, in Beverly Hills, Calif., opened its doors in April 2005 and now has 11 locations nationwide. Its Cupcake ATM dispenses cupcakes around the clock, or you can receive your sweet package at your door from its Sprinklesmobile.

My favorite flavors? Chai Latte and Cuban Coffee.
